Match Report- Avro FC 3-4 Litherland REMYCA FC

Litherland are through to the next round of the FA Cup after a wild game against Avro in which 7 goals were scored in the first half.

The match started lively after the third minute when Avro struck the bar, but the REMY hit straight back when Neil Monaghan curled an effort past the opposition goalkeeper to give us the 1-0 lead after 6 minutes.

Colin Quirk then put the team further ahead with an outrageous shot from 30 yards out, which left fans with their jaws wide open.

The home side were then awarded a penalty, which was converted by Liam Ellis.

After 20 minutes the score was level once again after a great piece of build up play from the home side led to a cross from Ryan Hanson and a quality finish from Adam Latham.

The comeback for Avro seemed to be complete on 25 minutes when Ryan Hanson on the wing fired a third goal in for his team after cutting in on his right foot.

However in the spirit of the FA Cup, the REMY had a comeback of their own to pull off and it started as Jake Connor capitalised on a goalkeeping error with a poke at the ball to make it 3-3.

The boys then did the unthinkable and made it 4-3 on 35 minutes when Liam Diggle nodded in a fourth after being left unmarked in the box.

Home and away fans were left salivating at the thought of another 45 as the whistle blew at 4-3 to the REMY at half time.

As the second half commenced the game seemed be following a similar direction as Avro had a goal disallowed.

Colin Quirk hit the post on 80 minutes, with a solid effort that seemed destined to give the lads a 2 goal cushion, however it was not to be.

The hosts came close to an equaliser in the last seconds, but superb defending by Paul Foy led to the chance being cleared off the line.

The whistle blew and the REMY pulled off an amazing 4-3 win away from home. The game had all the makings of an FA Cup classic and the fans in attendance were given a treat.

The result left Phil Stafford and his men in high spirits and hopefully will help the boys push on and grab a first league win of the season.

Litherland will now play Sheffield FC away from home in the next round of the cup, a tie which is certain to be an entertaining encounter. It will take place on the 24th of August and our original game against Ashton Athletic FC is to be rescheduled.

Our next game in the league will be against Hanley Town FC and it would be great if you could join us on the road.
