Dominant second half display for REMYCA earns the win

REMYCA looked to get back to winning ways at home in a local derby game and finally came good in an exciting game with all goals scored in the second half.
Playing against a strong wind REMYCA needed to remain resolute and defend the long ball and physical approach of the visitors.In honesty it was a scrappy affair with neither side gaining the ascendency both struggling with the conditions .
With the wind at their backs REMY commenced the second half with renewed vigour spraying the ball around the pitch pushing the full backs higher up the pitch and pressing the Runcorn back line.
On 55 minutes the dominance of The REMYCA play produced a classic goal poachers finish from Lennon Whewell who guided the ball home following neat approach play by Colin Quirk.Five minutes later Quirk was again the provider whipping in a cross which the mercurial Whewell dispatched at the far post. It was now all REMY as the visitors struggled to contain wave after wave of attacks The Visitors keeper kept the score down with several great stops when the score line could have easily been four or five goals.
In truth the visitors had posed no threat to the REMYCA goal in the second half but on 82 minutes they were awarded a free kick on the half way line.A lofted ball caught in the wind and was misjudged by home keeper Travis Wilson and ended in the net for a consultation goal for Runcorn.
Despite conceding REMY comfortably saw the game out to collect the first win of the New Year against a useful Runcorn side. The energy and level of play of the second half has set the standard for the remainder of the season as REMYCA look to advance up the table.
REMYCA are again at home in midweek Wednesday 16 th January when IRLAM are the visitors 7-45 pm KO
