Brief Match Report- Congleton Town 4-3 Litherland REMYCA FC

It was a seven goal thriller on Tuesday night, but another loss for REMYCA as they were beaten 4-3 against Congleton Town.

Alex Ryan, Casey Lee and Cameron Taylor were on the score board and the team brought the score back to 2-2 after being two goals down in the first 8 minutes.

Braces from Aaron Bott and Arron Johns were enough to take the game away from the REMY and cement the win for Congleton.

The home side took the lead in the first four minutes, when Bott managed to latch onto a clearance from Ben Morrow to fire in the shot. The keeper had difficulty dealing with a challenge from Josh Ryder, who did well to pressure the REMYCA goalkeeper. Four minutes later, it was 2-0 as Johns finished from close range.

Ryan began a REMY comeback on 28 minutes after expertly finishing a free kick into the left hand corner of the Congleton goal. It was a great finish for the Litherland man. The free kick was given after a handball from the opposition.

Lee tied the game at 2-2 just before half time. The midfielder picked up the ball 25 yards out and fired a great strike over Ellison and in off the underside of the bar. It was a brilliant goal and hopes were high for the REMY after this.

However, on 59 minutes Litherland were behind again. After good Bears play in the Litherland half, the ball found its way to Johns and he hit a decent shot at goal. Unfortunately Morrow struggled to deal with the shot, allowing it to go through him and into the net.

Congleton regained a two goal lead shortly after this, with Bott latching onto Congleton pressure and finishing a chance inside the box. The game seemed to be over at this point, but it wasn't to be.

REMYCA youth player Cameron Taylor collected the ball after dispossessing the Congleton defence and ran directly at his opponents. Beating them for pace, he impressively finished past Craig Ellison. It was great goal for the young player and will be a player for the future for Litherland.

It was 4-3 with 15 minutes remaining, but the Bears held onto to the lead to win the game and get the three points. Phil Stafford will be disappointed that his team lost a third straight game, but will feel slightly positive that the REMY were able to show some character.

We move on and our next game is away to Avro on Saturday in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division.
