An afternoon of terrible weather in Glossop proved too much for REMY as they faltered to a 4-1 defeat. A second goal in as many games for Hassan Fox (in the box)-Akande was one of the few positives to take from a dreary afternoon in Derbyshire.
REMY battled away in the challenging conditions but couldn't carry the momentum from Wednesday's win to gain a proper foothold in the game.
The pitch didn't allow for the electrifying counterattacking football that was on display last Wednesday, and Litherland couldn't find a way to adapt to the sodden circumstances.
The opening 10 minutes were a struggle for both sides as they tried to cope with the heavy pitch. In a game that called for aggressive and physical football, REMY were second best in both departments.
Glossop North End opened the scoring in the 14th minute. A ball thumped into the REMY box fell kindly to an opposition player, who took his chance and placed the ball into the bottom corner.
Six minutes later, the home side doubled their lead. A first-time cross was met at the back post and smashed into the back of the net.
Despite receiving little positive mention from my first 200 words, REMY offered a constant threat towards GNE's end. And after 41 minutes of persistence, REMY's tenacity paid off as the ref pointed to the spot after Fox-Akande was taken down by the outrushing GNE goalkeeper.
Much to the disapproval of the 203 Glossop locals.
But of course, Fox-Akande wasn't fazed as he placed his penalty straight down the middle to halve the deficit before half-time.
Unfortunately, the home side's lead was doubled again only a minute into the second half. A hopeful punt up the pitch was held up well and played through to a Glossop forward.
The initial shot was parried by a great save from Paddy McLoughlin, but only to the feet of the same attacker who followed his effort in.
The early second half goal saw the game swing out of favour for REMY.
GNE grab their fourth of the game in the 72^d minute. A low driven free kick from wide was flicked on at the front post. Paddy had no time to react to the close-range header as it flew past him.
With a pitch like porridge and heavy legs, REMY failed to create any clear-cut opportunities for the rest of the game.
REMY are back under the lights of LSP on Wednesday night as they face South Liverpool in the first round of the Liverpool Senior Cup. A clean slate in a new competition with it all to play for. UTR!
