Litherland REMYCA suffer spooky defeat against Padiham

A wet and windy Litherland Sports Park hosted league leaders Padiham to a 3-2 Halloween thriller under the lights. Joel Ogiugo, with a finish to haunt the opposition defenders for weeks, made a sodden evening almost worth it. Only for the night to be further dampened by a controversial decision from the referee, resulting in the visitors' win.

15 minutes into the game, the Padiham defence was carved open, and Charlie Glennon was slotted through one-on-one with the keeper. In a cold-blooded fashion, he bent his effort past the outstretched glove of the opponent's number one.

20 minutes later, the pitch was more swamp than stadium as the heavens opened over Litherland. The weather proved to be a problem for the Remy defence as Padiham found an equaliser in the downpour.

The first half ended with one goal apiece.

After the break, REMY shook off the cobwebs and looked the better side for a steady 20 minutes.

In the 70th minute, the visitors gained a bit of momentum and out of the shadows came the Padiham left-back who struck a killer finish past Huyton.

Only 5 minutes later, Joel Ogiugo found himself with space to attack on the left wing. The defence vanished like ghosts and were haunted by hesitation as Ogiugo whipped his effort off the far post and into the back of the net to find an equaliser for REMY.

In the 88th minute, just as the game seemed dead and buried, the referee ignored his linesman’s flag waving for offside and awarded a corner to the league leaders. Padiham capitalised on this decision and sank a dagger into the REMY hearts, as they found a winner with no time to spare.

There were a lot of positives to take into the next game away to Charnock Richard on Saturday.

REMY remain bottom of the NWCFL on four points.
