All you need to know about REMYCA’s 2021/22 Campaign

Litherland REMYCA survived relegation on Points Per Game (PPG) after winning their final three matches of the season.

How REMYCA stayed up

REMYCA won 1-0 at Prestwich Heys, 3-0 at Squires Gate before a 2-0 home win on the final day against Vauxhall Motors saw them finish 2nd bottom.

The Non-League system allows for eight ‘relegated’ teams from the National League Step 5-6 System on the football pyramid.

REMYCA’s 33 PPG was enough to secure them a place in the NWCFL Premier next season.

Thoughts from Manager and Chairman

Don Rimmer, Litherland REMYCA Chairman said this after securing their status in the division.

“What an achievement, we were down, literally. We have come back from the dead and retained our league status.

“This will be referred to as one of the highlights of our 63 year’s existence. Togetherness of players, management, and volunteers exceptional in our battle against the drop.”

Colin McDonald, Litherland REMYCA manager said how proud he was of his team.

“The proudness I have of my team cannot be measured, a team that fought right to the end and never gave up. Not one of them let me down.

“We are proud to secure our status in the division and we cannot wait to take the league by storm next year.”

REMYCA’s Season Form

Litherland REMYCA’s home and away form throughout the season are remarkably similar which shows how the side struggled throughout the season.

REMYCA’s first two wins of the season came at Litherland Sports Park with a 3-1 win over Ashton Athletic and a 4-3 win over Prestwich Heys back in October 2021.

Colin McDonald’s side would have to wait till mid-January until their next home win (4-0 vs Barnoldswick).

A 3-1 win at home to Longridge in early February gave the REMY a fourth home win of the season.

REMYCA had a major ground issue at Litherland Sports Park in late November that forced the club to ground share at Bootle FC until the damage was fixed.

Bootle FC accommodated REMYCA until February 2022 when they returned home.

REMYCA’s final home win came on the last day of the season against Vauxhall Motors which secured survival.

Over the 21 home games throughout the season REMYCA: won five home games which gave them a 24%-win percentage, drew two (10%) and lost 14 (67%) record.

On average in front of goal, REMYCA scored 1.4 goals a game and conceded 2.4 goals at home this season.

As mentioned earlier, REMYCA’s away form is remarkably similar to their home form.

Wins at Longridge, Squires Gate, Prestwich Heys, Runcorn Town and Ashton gave REMYCA a 23% away win record throughout the season.

A draw at Padiham and in the Macron Cup at South Liverpool meant a 9% draw record. 15 matches lost on the road amounted to a 68% loss record.

REMYCA were slightly more solid at the back away from Litherland Sports Park, conceded the 49 goals at 2.2 goals a game.

However, the REMY only could score 28 goals at 1.3 goals a game over the season away from home.

In total, Litherland REMYCA this season have won 10 games (23%) drew four (9% and lost 29 (67%).

Colin McDonald’s side score, on average, 1.3 goals a game and concede 2.3 per game.

Goals

With only 57 goals scored this season, REMYCA struggled for a consistent goal scorer.

Midfielder James Hammill ended the season as REMYCA’s top scorer with nine goals which equals to 16% of the teams’ overall goals this season.

Strikers Joe Cawley (eight) and Ryan Cox (five) came second and third with Carl Peers (fourth) finishing joint fifth with Paul Foy despite only joining the club in late February.

Jamie Clark’s final day double gets him on the top scorers list along with fellow defender Jack Riley.

Appearances

Leader and Captain Ashton Clements finished the season with the most appearances at the club.

Ashton finished the campaign on 37 appearances which meant the midfielder only missed six matches.

Top scorer James Hammill finished the season second in the appearance list with 27 game played.

Daniel Murphy (22), Adam Hammill (21) and Jamie Clark (19) complete the top five for the season.

Best and worst performances

Litherland REMYCA’s best win this season came at Ashton Athletic, a dominant 5-0 win over Ashton gave them a huge boost in their battle against the drop.

Goals from Jack Riley, James Hammill and Carl Peers gave the REMY a 3-0 lead after half an hour.

Gabriel Ellis and James Hammill struck again in the second half to secure a momentous day in Ashton for REMYCA.

REMYCA’s worst day of the season came in The Buildbase FA Vase against Wythenshawe United.

Three red cards and a 6-0 defeat would be Derek Goulding’s penultimate game in charge of the club as he would lose his job five days later after defeat to Burscough.

Renewed hope for next season

Litherland REMYCA survived the drop with fight and passion towards the back end of the 2021/22 campaign.

The feeling around the club from board room to fan level is optimistic ahead of next season as REMYCA look to move up the NWCFL table.
