Match report as REMYCA earn consecutive pre-season wins.

Litherland REMYCA fought from behind to earn a 3-2 win against Southport Hesketh.

A second half penalty from James Murphy gave REMYCA the win with 13 minutes left to play.

Southport started the better and got their reward in the 4th minute. ‘Number 9’ was played through on goal and although his first effort was saved, the second curled past Ciaran O’Loughlin into the bottom right corner.

Derek Goulding’s side responded quickly with a massive chance fore Murphy. His shot across goal was well saved by the Southport keeper with the rebound hit over the bar by midfielder Ash Clements.

A defensive error by REMYCA almost gifted Southport a second. Ryan Grier lost the ball to the ‘Number 9’ but O’Loughlin was equal to it.

After 14 minutes REMYCA levelled through Jay Hammill. Striker Lewis Scott forced a scramble in the area which allowed the ball to fall to Hammill whose snapshot deflected into the bottom right corner.

The REMY continued to pressurise the Southport defence. A fantastic through ball by Hammill found Scott whose cutback was diverted onto the post by the Southport defender.

REMYCA went ahead just before the 30-minute mark. A corner from the right found Ryan Grier in the area, his goal bound shot was flicked into the empty net by substitute Anthony Cato.

After failing to get their third, REMYCA were punished through a miscommunication at the back. On 67 minutes a mix-up between defender and keeper allowed the Southport ‘Number 7’ to guide his shot into an empty net to give Southport a route back into the match.

Seven minutes later REMYCA were given a chance to regain their lead back. Substitute Matty O’Keefe was hacked down in the area with James Murphy stepping up to slot the ball home to give REMYCA the win.

Next up for REMYCA is Ashton Town away on Saturday in their final pre-season game before the league kicks off on July 31st.
