Macron Cup Quarter Final Match Preview- Litherland REMYCA FC vs AFC Liverpool

It will be an exciting day on Saturday, as Litherland REMYCA FC host AFC Liverpool in the Quarter Final of the Macron Cup.

Despite REMYCA being in the league above AFC, the prospect of a derby means anything can happen and our opponents are on the upside in terms of form.

Litherland's recent run of games have been slightly hit and miss, winning two out of their last six games. They controlled and dominated Hanley 4-1, before a string of three successive losses to Whitchurch, Padiham and Congleton. Stormy conditions then came into play as we recorded both a 1-0 win and loss to Avro and Squires Gate respectively.

This run of form has led to Phil Stafford and his squad remaining optimistic, but it is difficult to gain any momentum when their form is hit and miss.

In the cup however, it has been a great run for the Sefton team. Their first win came away to Stone Old Alleynians, in a 2-1 win, before completely dominating a strong Bootle side 2-0. To reach this round, they were successful against division topping Vauxhall Motors 2-1. It feels as if the cup provides some confidence for the REMY, as they rarely appear to have struggled so far with some commanding performances.

Chairman Don Rimmer was on hand to draw the Quarter Final round and paired us with Saturday's opponents AFC Liverpool.

Chris Anderson's team are on a great run, with five successive wins in all competitions and scoring 18 goals in the process. Their last two games have resulted in consecutive 3-0 wins against Cheadle Town and Prestwich Heys and has saw the team consolidate a promotion place in the First Division North.

To reach this round in the tournament, they beat Sandbach 4-2 away from home in the opening round, before Abbey Hulton United 2-0. They then beat Prestwich Heys 2-0, which seems to show that the team has been consistent with their performances in the competition. However, REMYCA will be their biggest test so far, having only beaten teams in the same division levels as themselves. The REMY represents a step up for AFC and is a test for what life will be like should they get promoted.

Saturday's game will be an enthralling one. It will have the derby atmosphere, with both teams having something to prove and the prospect of a semi-final tie being mouth watering.

We want as many supporters to make brave the potential storms and get behind their local team. It promises to be a great match. Kick off is at 3pm.

If you can't make the game, you can follow us on Twitter for regular updates, and a match report will follow afterwards.
