Match Report- Sheffield FC 2-1 Litherland REMYCA FC

It was tough away day to Sheffield FC at The Home of Football on a glorious sizzling Saturday.

The REMY started well with some confident passing throughout the team that showed little fallout from their midweek disappointment in the league.

Sheffield’s first chance was saved by an in-form Ben Morrow, who is having a very consistent season so far.

An early chance for Litherland was just wide from the impressive Lennon Whewell.

Both sides cancelled each other out early on with the home side having majority of possession but the REMY dealt well with the early threats.

The first goal of the game came from a free kick when David Crist slipped in the box and the resulting free kick was confidently volleyed home from the edge of the box. This gave Sheffield FC a 1-0 lead. Litherland remained lively in possession and continued to press with confidence and authority until the HT whistle.

A determined REMY came out with force in second half and deservedly equalised with Lennon Whewell skilfully slotting past the Sheffield keeper to make the score 1-1.

Another free kick was awarded to Sheffield after a clash between players and as the ball was swept into the box Morrow attempted to punch the ball away, but appeared to be fouled, play continued and the rebound was slotted in by the home side as Morrow was left lying on the pitch in some discomfort.

REMYCA once again pressed and were denied a late penalty when Whewell appeared to be pushed in the box but yet again play was waved on much to the annoyance of the REMY fans.

Another late rally came to nothing and the home side hung on for the win.

The REMY can be proud of their performance but just fell short on the day.

We wish the best of luck to Sheffield in the next round and thank them for their hospitality on the day.
