Match report as REMYCA are beaten by Runcorn Linnets

Litherland REMYCA suffered a 2-4 defeat to Runcorn Linnets at Litherland Sports Park.

Goals from Tom Mciver and Neil Monochan were not enough to beat a tough Linnets side who play their football in the Northern Premier League.

REMYCA fell behind with 12 minutes on the clock. Runcorn striker Murray latched onto a ball over the top of the REMY defence to lob keeper Ciaran O’Loughlin.

Derek Goulding’s side responded well with Sam Finley forcing the Runcorn keeper to tip his cross over the bar.

The resulting corner fell on the edge of the box to Neil Monochan whose powerful strike was safely gathered by the keeper.

Half-way through the first half, REMYCA continued to push for an equaliser. James Hamill’s right footed curling strike just missed the far right post.

On 36 minutes, Runcorn extended their lead. A cross-field pass from the left was headed powerfully home by Brooke at the far post.

REMYCA hit back four minutes later through Monochan.

Right-back Andy Harper produced a brilliant cross that found the head of the midfielder 10 yards out. His header snuck underneath the Runcorn keeper to give REMYCA a route back into the match.

Just before the break Runcorn restored their two goal lead through a penalty. Full-back Finley fouled a Runcorn Linnets trialist in the area with Murray scoring the penalty to score his second of the match.

Runcorn continued to press the REMYCA goal with O’loughlin denying Murray his hat-trick on multiple occasions.

Seven minutes after the break, Runcorn got their fourth. Murray drove at the REMYCA defence and set up Lynch who slotted the ball into the bottom left corner.

Callum McIntyre’s side dominated the rest of the match but could not find a way past the REMYCA defence.

REMYCA had the final act on the game with substitute Tom Mciver scoring after a swift counter-attack led by James Murphy.

Murphy held and spun his defender to cut inside and play through Mciver who slotted past the Runcorn keeper from close range.

Next up for REMYCA is a trip to South Liverpool FC on Saturday 13th July (3pm ko).
