Match Report- Litherland REMYCA FC 3-0 Congleton Town

Litherland have finally risen out of the relegation zone after a convincing 3-0 win against Congleton Town on Saturday.

Goals from George Donnelly, David Crist and James Murphy were enough for Phil Stafford's team in a result that many around the club have felt has been coming for weeks.

The results sees REMYCA climb to 19th ahead of Hanley Town, although they have played a game more.

As it happened

The REMY started well in very difficult conditions with an early shot at goal from Donnelly blocked and went for a corner. Congleton also had a similar chance not long after this, but it was scuffed wide.

REMYCA had a glorious chance , when consecutive corners from Michael Ordish saw Ryan Grier head onto the bar. The home team were pushing for the opening goal with some effective play.

They broke the deadlock on 12 minutes, when Ordish then broke down left and put a ball through to Donnelly who calmly slotted the ball past the keeper to put REMYCA in the lead.

The REMY were on top and going for a second and again a last gasp block in the Congleton box prevented Paul Speed from adding to the score.

It was 2-0 on 40 minutes. Ordish provided another assist for the team, when he swung in the corner the resulting cross was headed home by Crist with a great finish past David Parton.

Second half

REMYCA were quick out of the blocks in the second half and started well with some good play in midfield freeing Murphy down the left only for his cross to come to nothing.

Congleton struggled in the wind to really create anything meaningful going forward and it was the home side who seemed to be dealing with the conditions.

Einar White, Ashton Clements and Speed combined effectively to create a third goal for Litherland on 71 minutes when Speed's shot was parried by the keeper and Murphy followed up to tap home.

White then tasted the keeper with a shot that stung the keepers hands, in what was the last real chance of the game.

REMYCA were well worth their win and never really looked in trouble after going 1-0 up earlier in the game.

It was a great win for the boys that should fill them with confidence for the rest of the season.

We would like to wish Congleton the best of luck for the rest of their season.

Our next game is away to Longridge Town on the 7th March.
