Match Preview - Winsford United vs Litherland REMYCA FC

Litherland REMYCA will play their first game in three weeks on Saturday as they face Winsford at the Barton Stadium.

The game was originally meant to be a home fixture for Phil Stafford's side, but with COVID restrictions in place it was reversed to an away match.

Litherland's last competitive match was a 5-2 away defeat to Irlam in the opening weekend of the North West Counties Football League Premier Division.

Jack Riley and Elliot Toner were on target in that game, bringing the scores level to 2-2, but Irlam were just too strong on the day. The weather played a key part on the day and hopefully this won't be the case on Saturday.

That result, coupled with a lack of games and other teams completing their fixtures has saw Litherland fall to 19th place in the league table.

Our opponents are currently top of the table after three games. With a record of two wins and draw, including a hugely impressive 10-2 win over Barnoldswick Town, it is clear that Saturday's game will not be easy for Litherland.

Players Sam Madeley and Robert Hopley scored eight goals between them on that day, with Hopley again on target during their most recent 1-1 draw against a strong Rylands side.

That all means that Saturday's game certainly has all the ingredients to be an interesting one.
