Litherland Remyca won 4-0 on their return to action as they progressed to the next round of the Zingari Cup.

Manager Dave Abraham, reverted back to three at the back with young Irishman Peter Strain starting alongside Flynn and Sheehan in the back with skipper Mee moving into the midfield. Keeper Cameron almost missed the game due to a holiday with Jay Webb stepping in to replace him in goal.

The game started in very windy conditions with the rain making it hard for both teams to gain good control early on. Remyca were trying to get their passing game going only for the wind and South Sefton to frustrate the Remyca players. South Sefton almost struck first but a good save from the keeper kept the scores at 0-0.

Remyca were starting to grow into the game and had a lot of possession only for the final ball in key move to let them down. Some good work from Liam O’Connor gave Worrell a chance to fire a good shot at the keeper but he saved well and the defender cleared his lines.

A breakaway again by Sefton found some desperate defending from the Remyca defence and the ball went behind for a corner. Keeper Webb cleared up easily from the corner and a quick throw out got Remyca on the attack.

On 37 minutes Remyca took the lead when a good move down the right saw a cross from Westhead volleyed home at the back post by O’Connor as he and Worrell came in together. This seemed to give Remyca a boost and they started to play some neat football towards the interval. Halftime 1-0 Remyca.

Again the second half started with the wind swirling but Remyca took control early on and kept the ball well not giving their opponents an opportunity with any silly mistakes. Joe McGovern was a half time sub for Peter Strain.

They soon doubled their lead from a corner by O’Connor which Flynn rose to head home to give Remyca a two goal cushion. This seemed to knock the stuffing out of South Sefton and it was only a matter of time before Remyca added to their scoring. Josh Wright was the manager’s second substitution with the winger replacing Worrell on the left for a like for like switch.

Wright was soon into the action and a ball to Carr down the left saw the forward cut inside the full back only to be brought down for the Ref to blow for a penalty. Captain Mee stepped up and struck home from the spot to make it 3-0.

Remyca were in total control now and keeping the ball well making Sefton do all the running to try and close down. Soon it was 4-0 with a cross from Austin down the right hand side turned home at the far post by sub Wright as Remyca went for more goals.

Manager Abraham made his final sub when he brought on youngster John Holloway for Austin. Holloway almost got the fifth when good work from Carr put him in only for the midfielder to squander the chance.

The game was virtually over as Remyca played out the game keeping the ball well with some neat football. It was a good win after a long layoff due to the waterlogged pitches and into the next round. With another cup game next week in the George Mahon cup it was good game time for the players in difficult conditions with the manager happy with the performance.
