Match Report as REMYCA draw 1-1 with South Liverpool

A first half header by Lewis Scott was not enough as Litherland REMYCA were held in an entertaining 1-1 draw away to South Liverpool.

REMYCA started the better of the two sides and almost opened the scoring in the first five minutes.

A flick on by Lewis Scott sent striker Colin McDonald in on goal but his strike across the keeper just went past the post.

South Liverpool almost opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Number 10 for South Liverpool got on the end of a REMYCA defensive header with a volley that just missed the top corner.

On the half hour mark James Hamill saw his shot from the edge of the area go over the bar as REMYCA continued to press for the opener.

Five minutes before the break, Neil Monaghan came the closest to the first goal. A free kick - 25 yards from goal - saw the South Liverpool keeper beaten but the ball hit the bar and the rebound was sent wide by James Murphy.

The REMYCA pressure paid off just before the break. Lewis Scott lost his man from a corner and his header at the near post was powered home into the top corner to give REMY the lead.

A fantastic passing move after the break almost gave REMYCA their second.

An interchange between Hamill, Murphy and McDonald after a superb pass by Monaghan saw Murphy cross the ball across the box to midfielder Hamill who just missed the ball with the goal gaping.

After a number of substitutions, REMYCA struggled to keep their rhythm on the ball whilst defending well against a barrage of South Liverpool attacks.

Substitute keeper Richie Cowderoy produced a number of smart saves with South Liverpool hitting the post on two separate occasions.

South Liverpool got their equaliser with 20 minutes to go. A shot from the edge of the area by the Number 9 was diverted in by the Number 11 despite shouts from the REMYCA camp of offside.

REMYCA searched for the winner in the final 15 minutes. Midfielder Hamill’s curling left-footed strike was brilliantly tipped over the bar by the South Liverpool keeper.

Despite a late surge from South Liverpool, REMYCA’s defence held firm to secure the draw after last weeks defeat to Runcorn Linnets.
REMYCA face a trip to Burscough Richmond on Tuesday, 7pm kick off.
