Litherland Remyca lost their unbeaten run on Saturday following a 4-0 defeat to Page Celtic in Huyton

Litherland Remyca’s unbeaten run came screeching to a halt as they succumbed to a 4-0 defeat on a windswept afternoon against Page Celtic.

The match started at a frenetic pace, with both sides trying to put their passing games into action, with Remyca best of the early proceedings, as Joey McGovern was twice put through on goal, but was beaten to the ball by the goalkeeper on both occasions.

Remyca also earned an early free-kick on the edge of the area after Pollitt was fouled, with the resulting set piece being taken by Anthony Mee. Unfortunately for the big defender, the ball ended up straight in the keepers’ arms.

Moments later, Callum O’Connor had a shot from range but saw his attempt cleared by an onrushing defender, before McGovern chased down the goalkeeper following hesitance on the ball, but he could only send the ball wide as he made the challenge. Austin was also looking good on the left, going on a mazy run and taking on the opposition before having a shot which just went wide.

By this point Page Celtic were settling into the game and would force a good save from Cameron in the Remyca goal as they broke quickly as a sign of things to come. Another quick break saw Cameron almost caught out but he recovered to send the ball wide. The resulting corner would provide Page Celtic with the breakthrough as Remyca failed to clear and the ball was blasted into an empty net for 1-0 on 35 minutes.

The first goal served as encouragement for Page Celtic as they pressed looking for a second before half time, with Austin chasing down a Page Celtic forward to snuff out an attack before running up the other end in an effort to force an equaliser before the half time whistle went.
That was it for the first half though as Remyca went in 1-0 down.

Manager Dave Abraham sought made three changes at half time as he looked to turn the game around, sending on Connor Webb. Steven Westhead, and Jake Worrall for Callum O’Connor, David Flynn and Peter Strain respectively.

A wonderful run from Austin at the start of the half almost brought an equaliser as he turned the defenders inside and out before sending in a cross that was, unfortunately, just behind James Holloway in the six yard box.
However, the hosts then made the best of the windy conditions, using it their advantage by sending in looping crosses to catch out the defence before one of their forwards hit a shot from range that Cameron managed to turn onto the crossbar.

The second goal did come on 63 minutes as the referee awarded a penalty for a handball in the Remyca penalty area, much to the chagrin of the players and staff. The penalty was duly converted as the Page Celtic player sent Cameron the wrong way and slotted the ball into the bottom left corner.

The penalty took the wind out of the sails of Remyca as they started to struggle in the wind, although they were having quite a bit of possession but in many situations seemed to struggle to do anything with it as they were being closed down quickly by Page Celtic. A rare foray forward saw good work from Westhead as he found some space before sending in a cross that McGovern met, but the Page Celtic goalkeeper was equal to the header.

Page Celtic would then go looking to kill off the game, forcing a pair of fine saves from Cameron. First he pushed a powerful shot wide from the right before smothering another shot from close range.

The rearguard managed to keep it at two before two goals in two minutes killed off the game as Page Celtic forward ran through the Remyca defence with ease before rounding Cameron and rolling the ball into an empty net for the third. Then the Remyca defence stopped as they appealed for an offside decision that never came, leaving the forward to blast it into the net.

This would be the last action of a miserable game for Remyca as they saw their unbeaten run halted. They will be back in action next week as they look to sign off before Christmas with a win.
