Litherland Remyca and Pinewoods played out a 2-2 draw as they played each other for the second week in a row

Litherland Remyca faced Pinewoods for the second week in a row this time at home with some enforced changes due to injuries with Worrell and Watkinson injured. Danny Campbell and Stephen Westhead started in their place.

Remyca started slowly and an early chance went begging for Pinewoods as a shot was easily saved by Cameron in the Remyca goal. Joey McGovern almost scored when a ball from Austin on the right saw the striker’s shot tipped over the bar by the Pinewoods keeper.

The corner came over and a shot from Flynn was smothered by the keeper. Remyca were pressing again and they got a goal from nothing when a hopeful shot from the edge of the box found its way into the net when the visiting keeper made a howler, allowing the ball to trickle through his legs to give Remyca a goal and put them 1-0 up.

The lead didn't last long and a mistake in midfield saw the visitors break quickly and score to equalise. A snap shot from skipper Mee went wide shortly after as the game became scrappy, with both sides giving the ball away easily.

Abraham almost scored again when a pass from McGovern put him in only to see his shot hit the outside of the post for a goal kick. Remyca attacked again trying to get in front and a good cross from Carr was cleared for a corner. The corner was taken and cleared and Pinewoods were again on the attack, with Flynn giving away a free kick on the right.

This was taken quickly as the Remyca defence were caught sleeping but the shot was wide of the post. The game became end to end and Austin had a shot saved by the keeper at the other end after a good ball from Abraham. McGovern then cut in from the right and his shot went wide as Remyca pressed.

At the other end smart defending from Sheehan stopped a Pinewoods attack as his last ditch tackle was cleared by Campbell. Remyca made it 2-1 just before the half when a good run from Austin saw the winger cross to Abraham to shoot home from just inside the box to give Remyca the lead at half time.

Remyca started the second half quickly and Carr’s cross from the right was pushed away for a corner. Mee was on the end of the corner but his header was blocked. Pinewoods almost got a goal to put them level when a ball over the top caught Remyca out only for the forward to fire over the top.

Again the game was end to end and Austin nearly gave Remyca a 2 goal cushion but his shot came back off the bar. Pinewoods were soon level when Cameron brought down their forward on the corner of the box. The penalty was converted and the game back to 2-2. Disaster struck five minutes later when skipper Mee saw red for a late tackle as Remyca struggled to get an advantage.

Remyca still tried to get the goal to take all 3 points but it wasn’t to be and Pinewoods almost took the points in the last five minutes when a shot cannoned back of the bar and to safety.
All in all it was a poor result for the lads as they strive to finish in the top five. Away to Roma next to see if we can get back to winning ways.
