IT'S THE FARHAN AND SHABIR SHOW!!

A superb fourth wicket partnership of 120 runs between Renfrew professional Farhan Khan and skipper Shabir Baig, paved the way for the club’s first league victory of the season against Irvine at Marress.
The Royal Burgh side travelled to Ayrshire on the back of a disappointing defeat against St. Michael’s on the opening Saturday, determined to make amends for their poor performance.
Shabir Baig won the toss and elected to field first, a decision that seemed to have backfired as the home sides’ openers Inderjit Singh and Abdul Rafay Ashraf racked up a quickfire partnership of 37 inside the first six overs.
The breakthrough came in the next over though as Sajid Majeed trapped Singh leg before wicket for twenty-five.
Twenty-four runs later, Amrit Kalash, bowling first change, picked up Ashraf for 24, caught by Farhan Khan, one of three in the innings for him, and Majeed collected his second scalp when he bowled South African Jonathan Waspe for 13 with the total on seventy-nine.
The home side looked to be faltering when Mohsin Ali became the fourth man out for just five runs with the score on 95 and things could possibly have been worse but for the intervention of South African amateur Brandon Harwood.
He compiled an innings of 82 runs in 34 overs which ensured that the home side posted a competitive total of 205 for 9 wickets in their 50 overs and this was all the more remarkable when you consider that only other batsman to reach double figures was Nasibullah Sahiburrahman, with fourteen.
For Renfrew, Amrit Kalash collected 3 wickets for 33 from his nine overs while Sajid Majeed (2 for 30 from 10 overs with 3 maidens) and Shabir Baig (2 for 42) made important contributions.
Mahmood Alam was the most economical performer, collecting 1 for 17 from his ten overs, with 4 maidens, while Waqas Arshad was slightly on the expensive side with 1 for 41 from six overs.
The visitors’ reply got off to the worst possible start when Irfan Nawaz was run out for just eight and was followed by Mahmood Alam, who was caught by Jonathan Waspe off of the bowling of Brandon Harwood for a duck.
At 14 for 2 Renfrew needed to consolidate and the in-form Amrit Kalash and club professional Farhan Khan came together to rebuild the innings with a partnership of 58 for the third wicket in fifteen overs.
When Kalash departed, bowled for 21 by Hafeez Muthair, in the twentieth over with the total on 72, there was still a considerable amount of work to be done.
Fortunately, Farhan Khan and Shabir Baig dug deep and fought their way to the brink of victory with a vital fourth wicket partnership of 120, taking the score to 192 before Khan departed for a well-played 82.
So, it was left to captain Shabir Baig (57 not out) and Qasim Khan to knock off the remaining fourteen runs to secure an important win for Renfrew, at 206 for 4, by six wickets.
Brandon Harwood (1 for 39), Hafeez Muthair (1 for 23) and Inderjit Singh (1 for 34) shared the wickets that fell in the Renfrew innings, but in truth their total was below par for this pitch.
