Chris Woodhead on 2023

As we come to the end of 2023, I wanted to take a moment to extend my gratitude to each and every one of you who has made this past year a memorable one for our club - Retford FC.

First and foremost, I must express my appreciation to the tireless efforts of our committee and the incredible team of volunteers all the way through the club. Your dedication, passion, and commitment have been key to our success. Your selfless contributions on and off the pitch have been truly invaluable, shaping the very essence of our club.

Reflecting on the last 12 months, our journey on the field has been a mixed bag of results. However, we’ve stayed true to ourselves and have maintained a sustainable club that runs all the way from the senior set up down to the juniors. We have made sure we are bringing in lads from the Under 21’s and local players which is key to the future of the club and more importantly, we have a structure and facility that we can continue to build on to keep the club close to it’s roots.

Our Ladies and Veterans sides both continue to compete in their respective divisions promoting the club to a high standard wherever they go, and our Junior sides keep on growing and you've just got to go down to our Juniors pitches over a weekend to see how many kids are enjoying their football in what continues to evolve into a superb facility.

Off the pitch, there's been a flurry of activity, particularly with the upgrades to the SL2 Rail Stadium. These enhancements wouldn't have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors. Their belief in our vision and their support have been instrumental in shaping our infrastructure, providing our players and fans with an even better experience. We showed what we could do with over 1200 at the ground on Boxing Day, and many around the ground could see that more is being done to improve the spectator experience.

As we welcome in 2024, we will continue to carry forward the spirit of unity, sportsmanship, and camaraderie that defines our club.

On behalf of everyone at Retford Football Club, I wish you all a happy new year.

Together, let's make 2024 another memory making year for this club!

All the best

Woody
