Birds claim top spot in the NLFB

The Birds guaranteed top spot in the NLFB at the end of the season with a hard fought win in terrible conditions over St. Gallen the second placed team. St. Gallen scored first following a kick and chase virtually from the kick off, however the Birds dominated the rest of the half with a strong forward performance, scoring 4 unanswered tries from Steffi Klupp (2), Anne Schneider, Hannah Kendall to lead 24.5 at half time. St. Gallen fought back in the second half that was disrupted by a hail storm that caused a 5 minute interruption. The team stuck to the defensive effort despite lots of pressure from St. Gallen. The Cindies managed to work two tries in this period, but a clever offload from player of the match Steffi to Jo Gorrara, playing her first game, allowed the winger to run clear to score the decisive try. St. Gallen scored again to make it an exiting last few minutes in the driving rain, but the organised Basel defence was not going to slip and ran out deserved 29:22 winners.
