North East Wales Cup

After the Christmas break, Rhos were hoping that the New Year would bring some improved results that the team deserved. The management team were able to welcome back, James Haynes and Josh Jones after long term injuries.
Playing Llanuwchllyn is always going to be a tough match and they went through the whole of 2016 unbeaten, unfortunately for them 2017 was not going to be the same.
It was the visitors who took the lead when a cross from their tricky winger found their tall striker whose header looped over Jason Wynn in goal. It didn't take long for Rhos to respond though with Lloyd Marsden finding space and running through the middle of midfield curled a shot into the bottom corner of the goal. The keeper had no chance, an exquisite finish.
Llanuwchllyn took the lead again, when a foul was committed in the Rhos box and the referee awarded a penalty. The visitors scored from the resulting penalty 2-1.
Rhos were playing nothing short of superb football at times, passing the ball with accuracy and purpose and it was on the stroke of half time that Rhos equalised. A superb cross from Josh Jones found Jamie Rogers, whose Scorpion kick found Daf Robrertson (who had an excellent game) to nod home. 2-2.
Rhos continued to play their good football on a heavy pitch. Dan Harrison was continually making non-stop runs down the wing to provide that extra width for the team. Rhos did look dangerous on the break but it was with 5 minutes remaining that Rhos scored the winner. Josh Jones was fouled outside the box. Jamie Rogers took the free kick and his powerful and accurate free kick hit the back of the net, again not giving the keeper a chance. The Ponciau Banks was bouncing!
Rhos soaked in the pressure from the remaining minutes to see the game out. When the players heard the full-time whistle they were overjoyed on what could be a turning point in their season. Again, every player gave their all and today they got what they deserved and beating a team a division higher than ourselves. A very good victory! Well-done lads!!
