Village off to the perfect start

Newly promoted Rhostyllen got off to the best possible start in Division 1. Rhostyllen lined up in a 4-3-3 formation with Stu Challoner, Mark Williams and Danny Wynne all making their debut for the village. It was a warm day and the pitch looked in great condition following the work that had been done on it during the break.

Brynford were really up for the game but so were the village and it was home side that came out of the blocks quicker. Rhostyllen broke the deadlock after 9 minutes when a Mark Williams cross was only partially cleared by the away side and it fell to Kevin Roberts who made no mistake in smashing the ball into the net to give the village an early lead. Rhostyllen then continued to to create chances before Danny Wynne turned his man brilliantly on the edge of the box and struck a fierce shot which had the keeper beaten only to be denied by the post. The home side doubled their lead when great work down the left by Jamie Richards and Lewis Clamp saw a ball played into the front post where Wynne was being marked by two defenders, the ball ran through to debutante Mark Willaims who calmly slotted the ball home.

Half Time 2-0

The second half started with Brynford pressing and beginning to create chances, a fine save from Joshua Jones and Brynford striking the bar persevered the home sides lead. Rhostyllen were still dangerous and creating their own chances and a one on one was blasted over by Wynne whilst under the attention of a defender. Wynne then had a goal disallowed for a close offside goal, as Lewis Clamp low shot was parried by the keeper for Wynne to tap in. Wynne was then replaced by youngster Ryan Austin who was also making his debut. As the game wore out Richard Smith replaced captain Steven Jones and Alex Williams (yet another debutante replaced Mark Williams.

Rhostyllen saw the game out comfortably and 3 points were on the board. Next up Away to Acrefair.
