Due to half term (and possibly a rugby match) It was a difficult week to get enough players for our away trip to Hertfordshire Sports Village to play Welwyn Garden City. Our final number was 8 keen players ready compete as best we could! The only bonus was our opposition struggled for numbers too and showed up with 10, we were still 2 down…
With a lack of players positioning was difficult, and I think we ended up playing a 2-4-1 which resulted in a lot of running. Welwyn got off to a good start and scored 3 quite quickly, after this though we did well at picking up players, we managed to create some space and challenge Welwyn’s goal and gain a couple of short corners that we unfortunately couldn’t convert.
Welwyn had some good chances, taking advantage of the extra players and getting behind our defence. On a number of occasions their players found themselves 1 on 1 with Mike Flynn who was never phased and kept us in the game making some great saves.
On the attack Tom Hill and Andy Bowen had some good possession and we could have done with an extra player to make the most of the chances they made for us.
In the end the result was 6 – 0, hopefully next week we will be back to a full team and will be able get a win on the books.
