In an enthralling contest both sides had spells of ascendancy although a draw was a fair result.
The Robins went ahead after seven minutes. Danny McLaughlin was adjudged to have handled inside the Ringmer penalty area and Spencer Slaughter placed his spot kick into the bottom corner of the net out of reach of Jack Stern. Six minutes later the scores were level when Marc Whiteman side footed home a cross from Joe Dryer. A spell of pressure from Hassocks saw the home side regain the lead after thirty minutes when Stern could only help a powerful strike from Richard Thomas from wide on the right over the goal line. The Blues hit back immediately with a cross from Ryan MacMillan falling for Whiteman to spin and hit the ball into the net for the equaliser. Moments later a long range effort from Dave Soutar was spilled by Joel Harding, in goal for the Robins, but the ball ran out to Nick Barden near the corner flag. His cross was met at the far post by Soutar but his header flashed inches wide of the goal.
The see-saw pattern of play continued in the second half with Dryer and Whiteman both close to scoring before the Blues defence was put under pressure from a succession of corners. During this spell Stern made two outstanding saves to deny the home side a goal. First when he tipped over the bar a header from Ian Simpson and then when he turned a long range shot from Michael Bates aside for a corner. The latter stages of the game saw Kieran Patel and Miles Scerri both miss the target as
Ringmer pressed forward in a final assault on the Robins goal.
