Ripley get 2nd win of pre season

After 2 consecutive defeats to higher level opposition, Ripley took on West End Village who were relegated from last seasons Surrey Elite League and proved a stern test on both occasions so we were ready for the test.

It was an even start to the game, both teams trying to move the ball on a tricky pitch but Ripley gradually started to assert their authority. A great diagonal ball from Jimmy Comer sent debutant Toni Perry away who coolly slotted past the keeper to put us 1 up. The 2nd came courtesy of good high pressure, resulting in us getting a corner. The corner was taken by Brad Mulhall, flicked on at the near post and Danny McIntyre acrobatically volleyed him. Ripley were in total control and inevitably the 3rd goal came, high pressure again forced West End to put the ball out for a throw which was quickly taken, Kieran Alderman made the run in behind and lobbed the bouncing ball over the onrushing keeper to make it 3-0 at half time.

Ripley made 3 changes at half time. Brad Mulhall, Ash Smith and Alfey Daley coming on to replace Wayne Grigg, Kieran Alderman and Toni Perri. Ripley were forced in to a 4th change shortly after when Robert Jones hamstrung went chasing a through ball and he was replaced by Ben Liechti. It was Ben who added the 4th and 5th goals when he was played through and slotted the ball away well and rounded the keeper for the other. Alfey Daley added the 6th when he flicked the ball past the defender and dunked the ball over the onrushing keepers dive. Ben could have had a hat trick when he tried to round the keeper again but was unable to.

A good run out and nice to get a few goals. This weekend we host Guildford & Alliance League side Worplesdon Phoenix at Lion Park, 1pm ko.
