Highly Successful 30th Season!

Frazer Richardson8 Jun - 20:31

Summary review of another hugely successful season

As our 30th Season draws to a close we would like to congratulate all of our 500+ players and our 90+ coaches on a fantastic season, and say thank you to all our parents for your continued support and help in maintaining the superb reputation of Rockleaze Rangers FC.
We fielded 28 teams across the U18 Bristol Combination league, the Avon Youth League, the Hanham Minor League, the Bristol Saturday Youth League, the Severn Valley Youth League, and the Bristol Friendly League, as well as our thriving Inclusive Group.
We are incredibly proud of all of our teams but special mention and congratulations goes to the following:

- Under 17s – Winners of the Bristol U18 Combination Division 2. Coached by James Dillon and Chris Down. An absolutely brilliant achievement considering the squad were playing a year up, and the team performed above expectations coming out with a thoroughly deserved league title.
- Under 16s Youths – Winners of the Gloucestershire Football Association Cup and Runners-Up in AYL Division 1. Coached by Paul Pennington and Marc Scannell. A wonderful season for our U16 Youths which culminated in an excellent performance in the GFA Cup Final to beat a very strong Cirencester Town Gladiators team 5-2. This was also a fitting send-off for coach Paul Pennington who will be retiring from duties and enjoying a well deserved rest having coached the team for 11 years, from their start at Under 6s. Thank you Paul for everything you have done and achieved, you are a credit to Rockleaze Rangers.
- U15s Blacks – Runners up Bristol Saturday Youth League Division 3. Coached by Jon Wells and Alex Moyle.
- U14s Youths – Winners of AYL Division 1, the Gloucestershire Football Association Cup and Avon Youth League Cup, and an undefeated season. Coached by Stu James, Steve Kelly and Josh Morgan. Once again our U14 Youths set the standard at this age group, and this season’s achievements are all the remarkable as this is the third time in a row that the “Treble” has been achieved, a feat never before done. The Division 1 League title was secured with a number of matches remaining and the GFA Cup Final was secured vs Hallen FC in thrilling fashion on penalties after a 2-2 draw in normal time.
- U14s Reds – Runners up in AYL Division 2 and promoted to Div 1. Coached by Richard Rogers and Stephen Potts. This makes a superb season for our U14 teams and we will now have two teams in Div 1 next season which is a fantastic achievement and demonstrates the strength of this age group in both players and coaches.
- U13s Reds – Winners of AYL Division 4 and an unbeaten season winning all bar 2 games. Coached by Jon Camfield and Ali Serle.
- U13s Greens – Winners of Bristol Saturday Youth League Division 2. Coached by Steve Harris.
- U12s Reds – Winners of the Bristol Saturday Youth League Cup and Runners up in Division 1. Coached by Tom Armstrong, Simon Evans, Scott Defries and Mark Ellis.
- U12s Youths – Promoted to AYL Division 1. Coached by Anthony Barrett, Tom Armstrong, Simon Evans and James Sully.
- U12s Colts – Promoted to AYL Division 3. Coached by Frazer Richardson, Scott Defries and Ben Grantham.
- U12s Blacks – Runners up Bristol Saturday Youth League Division 3. Coached by Mark Nichols.

In our younger age groups where league tables are not published, we have also seen some significant success.
- U11s fielded 4 teams across 3 Leagues. The U11 Reds included a tremendous run in the League’s Challenge Cup reaching the final, narrowly coming second to a very capable Cinderford Town Team, after a lot of penalties following a 2-2 draw. The U11s also won the Wessex summer tournament.
- U10s - The BSYL U10s Blacks won the spring cup against a very strong Cotham Tigers team, winning 3-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. The Sunday HML side got to their medal final for the Autumn Cup but lost to Mangotsfield, and finished runners up in their group for the Spring Cup. The U10s also finished runners up at both the Wessex Tournament and the Thornbury Tournament.
- U9s – The squad was split into 4 squads across the BFL and BSYL with one team playing up a year group, and performed superbly well to finish top of the BSYL U9 league as well as being highly competitive against U10 opposition.
- U8 – A great season fielding 4 teams in the BFL with the squad showing huge growth both on and off the pitch, working together with impressive skill and understanding, as well as holding their own against tough Hanham Minor League opposition in some friendlies, good preparation for entering the HML next season.
- U7 – A fantastic first season of organised matches against local opposition, fielding 4 teams in the BFL. Consistently high levels of enjoyment amongst the squad with some excellent play and always in a great spirit. The positioning, passing and teamwork really improved through the season.
- U6s – Our youngest age group have formed incredibly well with a superb team of coaches who have established an excellent squad. At this stage it is all about skills development and creating a love of the game in readiness for organised matches commencing at U7, and the coaches have done a fantastic job.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to U18 coach Oz Jones who also retires for a well earned rest having seen his team through to adult football. We hope you enjoy getting your Sundays back and we look forward to welcoming you back for future matches to enjoy as a spectator rather than coaching!

Congratulations to everyone for so much success already this season and thank you as always for all your hard work that makes the club one of the most highly regarded in Bristol!
