Rockpoints 1st game in the first division was a repeat of last seasons opener against the Vinyard.
The Vinyard always give us a tough game and this one was no different to previous ones. Both sides wanted to get off the mark with a win and it showed as nit one player held back from either team and it made to be a good game to watch. The 1st half kicked off and both teams struggled to get a foothold in the game. Rockpoint were forced into an early substitute as Liam judge went into a fair but strong challenge only to come away with a double fracture of his ankle and we wish him a speedy recovery. The 1st half ended 0-0.
the 2nd half had a bit more excitement in it as both teams went looking for the win. It was the Vinyard who got their noses in front thanks to a rocket of a free kick 0-1.
As per usual that goal seemed to wake Rockpoint up and the reaction was an exceptionally good one as in the space of 5 mins Rockpoint found themselves in front as stu Hardman pounced to level the tie and then dava bowe calmly slotted home a penalty won by Josh Hatton 2-1.
It was Rockpoint who struck again with 15 minutes to go as stu played Josh through on goal and he used that lethal left foot of his to make it 3-1.
Vinyard kept on pressing though and grabbed a 2nd goal from out of nothing to make it a nervous few minutes match ended 3-2 and 3 massive points against a tough opponent.
man of the match was given to skipper stu Hardman with the words "he was a proper pest".
well done to all the lads and we push on to the next game .
