Update on the club's relocation

Supporters might have seen the news in last weeks Dunfermline Press that the sale of Recreation Park has been sanctioned by Fife Council. As you probably already know the council own the land and the pitch and we understand that a superstore and a car park will be built on part of the pitch with the rest likely to be used for housing development. It is not yet known which of the supermarket firms is involved in the development.

The ‘Rec have played here since 1992 and last year our lease was terminated and replace with a new deal that reduced the notice period from six months to one month. The council will sell half a hectare of land at Recreation Park in a deal that has to be approved by SportScotland.

The council says that the development at the Fleet Grounds ‘offers potential for re-provision of the facilities and will be able to accommodate the football activities currently undertaken at Recreation Park’.

Chairman Jon Harrison said: ‘Fife Council has been looking at various sites for relocating Rosyth Recreation and it’s been ongoing for a year or so. The business plan for the Fleet Grounds didn’t include the juniors but I understand the sites they’ve been offered were not available or weren’t good enough. So there’s now going to be a meeting with the club, the SFA and the partnership. The club is looking at a few ways of accommodating them at the Fleet Grounds but there are still matters to sort out’. A club spokesperson confirmed that the Fleet Grounds remains the preferred option.

Of course a lot of our fans would rather not leave Recreation Park at all but clearly the situation is out of our hands. We will be doing our best to make the transition as smooth as possible and to safeguard the status of the club in Rosyth. If done well then it could create the basis of a highly successful future for the club. We will keep everyone informed of any future concrete developments.
