ROTHERFIELD CRICKET CLUB TIMELINE

1818 First recorded match involving Rotherfield. Brighton beaten at Rotherfield by 4 runs.
1836 Match against Maresfield. Oldest current fixture.
1861 Contemporary Kent cricketer EV Bligh plays for Rotherfield
1912 Original club folds
1914 Present club formed
1919 Play resumes after First World War. Former Kent wicket-keeper Fred Huish spends season with Rotherfield but does not keep wicket.
1921 Founder member of Crowborough & District League. In Division 1 with Buxted Park, Crowborough, Mark Cross and an Army Signal Corps team based at Crowborough Camp.
1923 2nd XI enter league
1925 Club buys first mower
1926-28 Division 1 runners-up three years in a row
1928 Geoff Pett hits 107 not out against High Hurstwood, the only century recorded for Rotherfield before the Second World War. It was also the first hundred for any club in the Crowborough League.
1930 Rotherfield bowl Hartfield out for 3
1931 Rotherfield dismissed for 8 by Boarshead
1934 Evening matches begin
1936 Junior section established. 2nd XI dismissed for 8 by Nutley.
1939 Defeat at Lye Green marks close of play for seven years. End of Crowborough & District League.
1946 Cricket resumes in Rotherfield after Second World War
1948-49 Temporary relocation to Greenlands, Rotherfield Hill
1950 Return to main ground where matting pitch laid. Former Sussex and England cricketer Maurice Tate joins club. Most successful season ever: 1st XI win 28 matches and lose only 2. Freddie Fidler becomes first Rotherfield bowler to claim 100 wickets in a season. Also sets record 846 run aggregate.
1953 Alf Blackman takes 10-32 against Wadhurst. Captures 111 wickets in season.
1962 Alf Blackman takes 101 wickets
1963 First celebrity match at Rotherfield against Lord's Taverners, including Learie Constantine.
1964 Alf Blackman claims 1,000th wicket, the only Rotherfield bowler to reach this milestone.
1966 Match against Sussex for Ken Suttle benefit. Sussex score 364. Dick Baker becomes first Rotherfield batsman to reach 5,000 runs.
1969 Jim Parks benefit match
1975 Wally Jopson leaves club after taking 680 wickets in only seven seasons. Claims 100 wickets in a season four times.
1984 Harold Beeney first Rotherfield batsman to reach 10,000 runs. Also captures over 900 wickets.
1985 Paul Phillipson benefit match. Rotherfield beat Sussex XI.
1988 Paul Parker benefit match
1993 175th anniversary celebrations. Club history produced by Brent Simmonds and Kingsley Miles.
1995 Rotherfield joins East Sussex League. Improved pitches bring in higher-scoring era.
1996 John Baldock first batsman to score 1,000 runs in a season. Aggregate of 1,642 still unbeaten. Also holds record 30 outfield catches.
1997 2nd XI enter East Sussex League. Baldock registers highest innings of 168 not out against Frant.
1999 Kevin Simmonds takes 10-46 against Withyham. John Baldock passes 10,000 career runs.
2002 Record total of 290-3 against Coleman's Hatch
2003 End of junior cricket at Rotherfield. Chris Buck passes 10,000 career runs.
2004 Rob Williamson completes record 43 wicket-keeping dismissals in a season
2007 Record unbeaten partnership of 270 for the first wicket between John Baldock and Tom Williamson against Glynde III
2008 John Baldock hits 30th century
2009 Ian Hartland, aged 15, scores 1,000 runs in season
2010 John Elms takes 53 league wickets. John Baldock reaches 20,000 career runs.
2011 Kevin Simmonds becomes the second Rotherfield bowler to claim 1,000 wickets for the club
2012 Junior coaching resumes. 1st XI remain in League Division 5. 2nd XI relegated from Division 9.
2013 1st XI remain in League Division 5. 2nd XI remain in Division 10. Twelve division East Sussex League,one of the largest in the country.
