Rotherfield United FC Under 11's continued their very impressive season with a hard fought 1-0 win over Woodley Wanderers in the BYDL Cup Final at Tadley FC on Sunday. The squad were cheered on by a large and vociferous support; despite this the team were below par in the first half which ended goalless. Some honest words of encouragement at half-time saw Rotherfield make a much better start in the second half - midway through which Bailey Stowell whipped over a precise corner for Ollie McDonnell to magnificently head into the bottom corner; this sparked great celebrations from players, subs and supporters (the coaches obviously remained cool and calm?). The next 15 minutes proved a nervous time as a very good Woodley team pressed for the equaliser; committed defending coupled with excellent goalkeeping from Janos Zverko kept the final score at 1-0. Inspirational captain Arnar Davenport lifted the cup to the delight of all but especially to his 15 teammates who all contributed to this fantastic and triumphant cup run. Ollie McDonnell picked up the Man of the Match Award which was voted by the BYDL.
On the same day Rotherfield United Under 10's won their final 3-0 and the Under 9's were very unlucky to be edged out by 1-0.
Appreciation and credit must go to all the players, the magnificent support of family and friends and coaches from all age groups at Rotherfield United FC on what was a great day.
A massive thank you to Buzz Gym for their continued sponsorship of the Bees and their very smart new training tops!
