They started the tournament with a 1-0 win against Driffield. Grace Cook scored the first goal, starting the girls on a positive. The guest Keeper, Holly, put pressure on anyone who came in the D. During the next game, the girls managed to keep possession for the majority of the match, with Erin Butler controlling the game in the center of the field. Both Penny Fox and Tilly Herbert powered up and down the wings throughout the whole game. Although they drew, the girls grew in confidence. Grace proceeded to get her second goal, sending the ball flying past the Ben Rhydding’s Keeper. Shortly following which, Phoebe Carver ran from one end of the pitch to the other to score from a beautiful clean strike. Although originally nervous to play midfield, Holly Bashforth stepped up and scored the first goal against Selby, a cracker. Not long after Phoebe scored the second. Emily Kostarijsek who was making her debut as goalkeeper pulled off some amazing saves. In their final game, they unfortunately lost 1-0 but not without a fight. Captain Emily Baggaley controlled the defence and the girls fought hard to keep the goal difference down. Eliza Morley was able to make some strong tackles and carried the ball out of defence.
Overall, the girls had an amazing first tournament back, playing well in a variety of positions. Next month they will be playing in the second division.
Well done girls and good luck in the next tournament.
