The girl’s tournament was attended by 14 schools across morning and afternoon sessions. Approximately 140 girls participated and a highly contested morning of hockey saw Anston Greenlands top the league with Thorogate as runners up. The afternoon saw a very dominant Thornhill take pole position with Aston Fence placed second.
The standard of hockey on display was exceptionally high and was a joy to see. All games were played in a competitive but friendly manner and it was plain for all to see that the participating girls were thoroughly enjoying themselves.
The U11 boys’ festival was also attended by 14 schools over the course of a morning and afternoon session with numbers being very similar to the girl’s tournament. In a very strong morning competition, Waverley came out on top with St Mary’s in the runners – up position. The final league placing indicated there was only one point separating second, third and fourth place. Testament to the strength and skill of all teams attending.
The afternoon session saw yet another fiercely contested league with a highly skilled team from St Albans achieving top spot, closely followed by Thorpe Hesley who took the runner – up position.
The winners and possibly the runners-up in both the girls and boy’s festivals will go forward to the South Yorkshire regional finals to be held at Hill House, Doncaster in January 2026.
These 2025 tournaments provided yet another successful Rotherham Schools Games Hockey Festival for both girls and boys. Rotherham Hockey Club works tirelessly to support all schools attending and is delighted to be involved with such initiatives, especially ones that provide the opportunity to so many school children the chance to play hockey; many for the very first time.
