Report by Lee Dodge

A cold but sunny day in Pocklington was the venue for a very good day at the office for the Under 16 boys.

In a 6 team group with Huddersfield, Thirsk, Driffield, Leeds Adel and Bridlington, the boys in blue finished with stats of Lost 1, Won 4, 10 goals scored and only 1 conceded.

Bridlington 1 Rotherham 0
The opening game saw a tough game against Bridlington which was the only defeat of the day but still a valiant performance. The team arguably deserved a point but a strong Bridlington defence and a slice of good fortune denied Rotherham a deserved draw.

MOM: Huw Barber.

Leeds Adel 0 Rotherham 1
A much more direct performance in game 2, against Leeds Adel, saw the blues comfortably in control of the game but only able to win by a single goal. A fantastic bit of poaching as George Darby pouched on a clearance, pivoted and slapped past the goalkeeper to give the blues all 3 points.

MOM: George Darby

Driffield were the second victims of the day in game 3 as the Rotherham youngsters comprehensively won 3-0. Some great flowing hockey produced goals for Connor Massey (2) and George Darby.

MOM: Josh Towers

Thirsk 0 Rotherham 2
In game 4, Thirsk provided stern resistance in the first half of the game but Rotherham's persistent pressure paid off as 2 goals in 4 minutes, from Connor Massey and Josh Towers, gave the blues their 3rd win of the day.

MOM: Tom Downs

Huddersfield 0 Rotherham 4
The final game of the day saw Huddersfield Dragons step up to the plate to try and prevent Rotherham from finishing in the top 2 of the group. Knowing that a win would seal promotion, Rotherham made the pitch very big by using both flanks to cause the Dragons problems from the off and came out as 4-0 winners.
The goals coming from Connor Massey (3) and, the goal of the day, from a superb reverse stick strike from a short corner from Josh Towers

MOM: Connor Massey

Overall, apart from the disappointment of the first game, it was a fantastic day for Rotherham Under 16 Boys, leaving Lee Dodge a very proud coach.
The entire club should be very proud of what the future of the club have achieved so far this season, with a record of Won 8, Lost 4 and Drawn 2, compared to last season where they did not win a game, and there are still matches to be played.

Team: Lewis Bacon, Liam Bacon, Huw Barber, James Hogarth, Josh Towers, Sarah Hartley, Tom Downs, James License, Connor Massey, George Darby.
