This week, we look back at 2016 for the mens 1/2/3s, and 2018 for the women's team.

First XI vs Carlton 2 - win by 3 wickets
scorecard

Having been returned to the ESCA Championship after one season in the Eastern Premier, the 2016 Lions were off to a strong start, having beaten Marchmont and Holy Cross in weeks one and two. Skipper Joe Kinghorn-Gray welcomed Carlton 2 to Barnton, and set in to bowl first, having lost the toss. On a fine pitch, Freddie Young (10-0-40-4) and JKG (10-1-51-3) were the pick of the bowlers as Carlton 2 set a formidable 251.
With opening batsmen Adam Catt and Sam Stibbs out early, Rob Thompson (26) and pro Daniel Payne set about laying a foundation, with Rich McCorkell joining Dan once Thommo was dismissed. And so they would remain for much of the afternoon, Rich dismissed for 60, and Dan for 103. A brief flurry of wickets followed, but Gordon Lamb (6*) and Will Blease (13*) nudged RHC over the line with 3 wickets and 8 balls to spare.

Second XI vs Westquarter & Redding - win by 3 wickets
scorecard

With results having been split vs St Boswell and Fauldhouse in weeks one and two, Joe Gibson's second XI were off to Falkirk to face Westquarter and Redding. Having won the toss, a stingy bowling performance led by openers Joe (8-4-14-0) and Tom Wilson (8-0-18-1), followed by Callum Dutia (8-1-32-2), Fraser West (8-0-31-2) and Rob Clarkson (7-0-17-2) held Westquarter to 132 from their 40 overs.
Looking to make a positive start, the top three were all dismissed cheaply before Umar Khan and Ethan Lapsley were able to dig in and grind towards the total. Ethan's dismissal for 36 saw a brief collapse in sight of the finish line, but Umar (39*) and Wilson (0*) were able to hold firm and bring home a three wicket win.

Third XI vs Edinburgh CC 3 - win by 9 wickets
scorecard
A Sunday fixture at Barnton saw frequent 3's opposition Edinburgh CC 3 face off against Nicky's 3XI squad. In an unbalanced, 13 team Division 8, the threes had beaten Watsonians 4 and Penicuik 3 in the previous weeks. Having won the toss, Nicky asked Edinburgh to bat first on the 500-run deck from the day before... and happily saw his bowlers, led by Calum Clarkson (8-0-22-4, and not seen in the 3s since) dismiss Edinburgh for 140.
Opening the batting with the contrasting (ahem) styles of Alan Moore and Andy Bradley, RHC were quickly on the pace, and though Mooro was dismissed for 35, Nicky (62*) and Andy (38*) wrapped up a nine-wicket win with 14 overs to spare.
There are rumours that a return fixture took place at Campbell Park later in the season, but ESCA has deemed this not to be the case, and no records remain... RHC and Edinburgh 3s would finish top and second in 2016 Div 8, and top and second in 2017 Div 7 - indeed Edinburgh 3 were 2nd in Div 9 in 2015, 2nd in Div 6 in 2018, and 2nd in Div 5 in 2019.

Women's XI vs Edinburgh South/Stewart's Melville women - win by 9 wickets (2018)
scorecard
Having chased a remarkable 237 in 30 overs the week previous, RHC women hosted Edinburgh South/Stewart's Melville combined squad at Barnton. Skipper Nicki Taylor winning the toss and bowling first, clearly fancying another chase! With an innings anchored around 2017 RHC player Hannah Short (84), ESSM posted a total of 162 - with 2 wickets apiece for Matilda Coke (6-0-17-2), Megan Taylor (6-0-31-2), Kitty Levenson (6-0-15-2), and Esme Pringle (5.2-0-30-2).
Edinburgh Uni pair Kitty and Ruth Foulds opened the batting, looking to replicate their success (41 and 115, respectively) from the week previous. However, Kitty would be dismissed for 26, bringing Megan to the crease to join Ruth... and so it would remain, despite ESSM varying their bowlers looking for a breakthrough. A nine-wicket victory was concluded with 5 overs to spare, with Ruth (64*) and Megan (56*) in control until the end.
