From Eddie Keal, Chairman Ruislip RFC.

October is here already. Month 2 of the season which means outstanding membership subscriptions are now overdue L Please pay promptly. We all share the cost of keeping the fabric of the club together, and that’s what subs go towards.

Senior rugby has had a slow start in terms of results. I know they value your support so please turn out on a Saturday if you can. The OneClub Day was a great success. Now we’re building momentum come along and enjoy the late Saturday sunshine and support our senior teams.

This coming Saturday, our 1st XV play at home against visitors Eton Manor. Kick off 3pm. By coincidence I watched the referee for the game officiate last Saturday. He’s very capable and very young. Some of the abuse he got from the touchline was not acceptable, way below the standards we set for ourselves at Ruislip. I’ve guaranteed him a better experience this week at Ruislip. Please don’t let the Club down.

The 2nd XV are away at Grasshoppers’ swanky new facility.

Our annual Fireworks Display is on Sunday November 4th this year. Please support it by volunteering for duties with your age-group. The bottom line is that the bottom line makes a big difference to us all!

Laura Arnold has taken over managing the team behind the bar this season. Some of the team are new and inexperienced. Please be tolerant. Laura does a great job and is getting them all up to full speed very quickly.

We will be showing all the Autumn Internationals on Sky TV in the Clubhouse, thanks to a special November-only deal with Sky.

We’re also looking at options to restore WiFi in the Clubhouse. The previous connection was via the rapacious Sky contract which we terminated.

Tacklebag, our kit supplier, will be visiting on Sunday 21st October with a pop-up shop.

As usual, many of you have hardly-worn, out-grown used kit. Can I suggest we put items on a table in the hall on Sunday mornings if people want to donate them to someone else rather than a charity shop or the dump? If someone could take a lead on this, please contact me. Please don’t bother Bruno and Katie, they are busy feeding everyone!

Last Saturday night the Clubhouse had a distinct feel-good factor, with visitors from London Cornish staying late and singing (a little). Ickenham RFC also dropped in for a few drinks and both our 1st and 2nd XVs stayed late. Just like a rugby club should be! It’s your Club, please use it.

If you have suggestions, requests or comments, please find me or one of the Club Committee. Our photos are on the wall near the bar.

Regards, Eddie
