We caught up with our captain, Reece Harwood, to get his thoughts on the season past and what next season means to him.

U21 Media: Afternoon Reece. Thanks for giving us your time to answer a few questions about the 19/20 season.

Reece:Of course, no worries at all.

U21 Media:Let's start with a little about you , where have you been playing your football up until joining the Linnets Youth Team?

Reece: I had a few previous seasons spent at linnets prior to this, before then, I spent 3 years at Runcorn town. This year under the youth team set up, having our own changies for the lads, it was a big change, the environment and everything else that came along with it. There were many benefits this season thanks to Ste & Ello for example having a linnets season ticket for all the lads to watch the games and training alongside 1st team every week.

U21 Media:So, as you know, this was the first season the lads were all put together into a youth team, how have you all been getting along?

Reece:All the lads have been getting along well, the majority of us all knew each other very well anyway and were good mates, making the season even more worthwhile as there’s nothing better. From the off of, the first game, we mixed well and collected some decent results before Christmas.

U21 Media:You spent a few weeks training with the first team and experienced match day in the Integro cup vs Crewe Alexander, how did you find it?

Reece: I found it very interesting and motivating, myself with Dean experienced what it would be like to be involved on a match day with the lads. It created a buzz for us, it being our local club that we’ve played for, for many years we couldn’t wait. Ello had a few words with us and assured us there’s the chance if we keep working at it over the coming few seasons. So it’s a very promising opportunity for us all.

U21 Media: What are your thoughts on how this season went?

Reece: The season started well as mentioned earlier, I think we mixed better than expected
mostly thanks to Ste and Jeff to be fair. We gathered many wins and it looked like it was going to be a very good season for us. After Christmas we struggled to get going with 1 game every 4-6 weeks, however, against Warrington town in the cup we were class. I’m gutted not to be playing football but of course the right decision was made as we all must stay safe to ensure we are playing again sooner rather than later.

U21 Media: What are your personal objectives for next season and how do you think the lads will fare in the NW counties U21 development league?

Reece: For me, I want to firstly make sure I have a spot in the team next season. I think no one at all has a guaranteed spot as I believe that for us to be successful next year in the NW counties U21 development league a few more experienced players are required to come in and I know Ste is already working hard on bringing in some quality players. If successful, I want to constantly strive to improve physically, adapting to the change that we will experience from junior football and hopefully once again make the 1st team match day squad. If we make the correct additions then I am sure that we will be successful.

U21 Media: Thanks Reece, we look forward to seeing you back on the pitch soon!
