On to round 3!

Ruthin avoid a potential banana skin by beating Bangor 1876
JD Welsh Cup – Round 2, 9th November 2019
An impressive crowd of 407, including the usual 25 or 30 die hard travelling Ruthin fans, braved the cold weather to witness a keenly contested tie against Bangor 1876 on Saturday afternoon.
A remembrance weekend minute's silence was impeccably observed prior to kick off before referee Mark James got the game under way.
Bangor suffered a setback after four minutes when veteran Iwan Williams pulled up through injury and as he couldn’t carry on was replaced by substitute Jamie Thomas.
Ruthin’s Will Owen produced the first goal scoring chance of the game when he unleashed a right footed shot from range which flew over the Bangor crossbar. Bangor’s Ben Owen responded with the home side's first clear opportunity on 19 minutes but his strike lacked power and did not trouble Ryan Goldston in the Ruthin goal.
The Bangor keeper produced a vital save as Will Owen again let fly with a ferocious effort after 25 minutes but the deadlock was broken five minutes later when evergreen centre back Kevin Evans powered in a header off the underside of the crossbar from a set-piece.
Bangor then almost equalised when Dylan Summers-Jones beat Adam Harvey-Davies down the left-hand side before sending the ball across the face of the Ruthin goal but it eluded both the onrushing Jamie Petrie and Benn Lundstram.
Bangor’s Cian Williams was the first player to be cautioned in the match as he conceded on the edge of the penalty area, Bangor keeper Leon Jones came to the rescue again by pulling off a smart save to deny Cai Davies from the resulting free kick.
Half Time: CPD Bangor 1876 FC 0-1 Ruthin Town FC
On 50 minutes Ruthin doubled their lead when hot shot Llyr Morris sprung the offside trap to bear down on goal and clinically fire home beyond the keeper.
Bangor began to grow into the game as the second half wore on and a 64th minute free kick provided an opportunity for the home side but Benn Lundstram's effort on goal lacked power and was comfortably gathered by the reliable Ryan Goldston in the Ruthin goal.
On 65 minutes Ruthin made their first substitution with Gwydion Ifan replacing the hard-working Will Owen. Bangor’s Dylan Williams then picked up a caution for dissent as he protested an offside decision shortly after Bangor’s Jamie Petrie saw his goalbound effort deflected behind for a corner kick. 8 minutes later Ruthin captain Ilan Hughes was cautioned for fouling Dafydd Thomas, the resulting free kick was headed agonisingly onto the roof of the Ruthin net. As the home side continued pile on the pressure, Ruthin counter attacked and Llyr Morris turned inside his defensive markers only to see his strike saved by the impressive Leon Jones.
Ruthin keeper Ryan Goldston was yellow carded on 81 minutes as he collided mid-air with Jamie Petrie as Bangor the marksman found himself through on goal from a long ball. The Ruthin defence proved strong enough to clear the resulting free kick and a series of corners and long-throws from Sean Lock.
Further substitutions from each side saw Tom Dyer replace Adam Harvey Davies and Leon Owens replaced Benn Lundstram for the home side. Bangor's last chance of salvaging something from the game saw Sean Lock unleash a left-footed shot from 25-yards which Ryan Goldston did well to save.
We are looking forward to Monday evening’s third round draw and are hoping that we are drawn at home against one of the big Welsh Premier League sides.
