The Sale Ladies First team squad have had a mixed season so far, sometimes winning but not playing well and sometimes playing the better hockey but not getting the winning result.
They were at home to local 'frenemies' Timperly on Saturday. Playing in South West Div 2 league.
A match that is always about pride!
Sale spurred on by the news of their new club house plans being passed, but still a slightly depleted squad due to winter illness were 'up' for the game.
Sale began by playing some super pass and move hockey, they created chances and knew something would come of it. Sarah Roberts slapped home the first goal, soon after Katy Levy followed up an attack waiting in the right place to tuck away another goal. Timps had a few attacks, which the Sale defence swept up nicely.
Sale were able to work their attacks down the left and right and switched when they needed to. A comedy of errors: player tackled by a stone, a loopy deflected shot and an unusual goal keeping mix up meant Timperly clawed a goal back. Sale moved on quickly and Jane Fylan ( Captain) linked well with Kelly Mottershead to slip the ball past the goal keeper to put the score 3-1 at half time.
The second half presented much of the same team passing hockey from Sale and lone attacks and long balls by Timperly. Attempts on goal at both ends saved by great defensive play at both ends- it was really end to end stuff. Sales attack had time to put together some more 'pass and move play' which resulted in a cracking finish by George Hails taking the score to 4-1 to Sale at full time. Sale finally getting a goal result that suited their efforts.
Timperly fielded some younger players in their squad this week who kept working right until the end, when they are more established and gain more experience in this league they will be a great asset to the Timps team.
