Salisbury Hockey Club (SHC) has set up a bursary scheme, funded by Salisbury City Council, to attract and encourage new junior players to hockey who may not otherwise have considered it.
A SHC Youth Bursary is available for young people aged 11 – 16. We have two bursaries available. Each covers:
The bursary is open to join either U12, U14 or U16 squad age groups. Applicable squad age is determined in line with school start dates / year groups.
The bursary application process for the upcoming hockey season is now open.
All applications, and any bursary granted, are treated in total confidence.
Why have we applied for and set up a bursary scheme?
Hockey is an exciting, physically challenging, fun and skilful game, yet due to the high cost and space needed for pitch facilities, it’s not a sport offered as part of the curriculum in many schools. Therefore, some youngsters never get the chance to try the sport.
SHC is dedicated in its aim to be a fully inclusive provider of hockey to the Salisbury area, and we welcome anyone who wants to get involved. Yet, we recognise that the club today is not as accessible to everyone as it could be.
With the support of Salisbury City Council’s small grants, whose youth bursary funding is designed specifically to support the free provision of activities for young people who could not otherwise afford to take part, we hope to create more opportunities for anyone who thinks hockey might be the sport for them.
The physical, social and mental benefits of playing a team sport like hockey, and the opportunities of being part of a club like SHC, are many and that’s why we are passionate about helping more people have the opportunity to join us and take part in such a brilliant sport.
