In our ongoing series where we will meet members of Salisbury Hockey Club.
Today it’s the leaders of the Shah Jahan season long goal scoring competition Andy Cowling and Lisa (Lockett) Lovatt.
ANDY COWLING
Team playing for – Men’s 4s and Striders
Goals this Season – 21 goals for the competition with a further 4 when playing a second time in the weekend
Do you have any other roles at the club – Not formally! I help with Thursday walking hockey/Flyerz, umpiring the u16 boys and, more recently, helping to coach the ladies 5s.
When and where did you start playing hockey – At school (a while ago!)
What's your best memory of hockey at SHC – Successfully playing for all men's teams in one season - although this season is going pretty well too
Best moment in hockey – Playing alongside my son Josh last year and both of us scoring in the same game was pretty special.
What do you enjoy about your hockey - The banter in the team and the opportunity to help others improve and getting to know a wide variety of people.
LISA LOVATT
Team playing for – Ladies 3s
Goals this Season – 13 goals, including 4 against West Meon
Do you have any other roles at the club – Not anymore.
When and where did you start playing hockey – At school when I was 16 years old. I’ve been playing for SHC for 26 years now.
What's your best memory of hockey at SHC – I was the captain of the ladies 1st team when we got promoted and then won team of the year with the Salisbury Journal. So many wonderful memories that definitely still make me super proud.
Best moment in hockey – Probably being selected to play for my county back in Staffordshire, only a couple of months after I started playing hockey. (I was actually a keen netball player until I found hockey at 16!)
What do you enjoy about your hockey - Definitely the ‘hockey’ family. I’ve met some incredible people on my hockey journey and have lifelong friends as a result.
