Salisbury 2s v Salisbury 3s

As promised for the record, the goal scorers form last week were Hal (2) and one each for Dai, Oli, James W and Andrew L!

This was a hard fought match throughout - friendly in name and nature but also competitive and determined. The Mighty 3s were determined to build on last week's success but knew that the 2s would offer far sterner challenge. Quickly into their stride (a lot of ex-Striders on display) and playing some good constructive hockey the 3s enjoyed early dominance but failed to convert pressure into goals. The 2s took heart from the on-going parity and struck the first blow with a goal that might be claimed to have been against the run of play. The excellent contest continued with no quarter asked or given and once again the 2s converted to go into half time 2 - 0 to the good.

A third goal shortly after the break added to the deficit that the 3s were determined they could still pull back. Continued good play and great spirit saw a fight back with a well taken penalty corner strike from Granny closing the gap. More goal mouth action saw Millie step forward to convert a penalty flick, narrowing the scores to 3 - 2.

And so it remained - a hard fought win for the 2s and an admirable display by the 3s (honours even in all but score perhaps!). Both teams will take many positives from the encounter and will look forward to the league season that begins this Saturday.
