Young tigers were pipped to the title but are improving every day.

Chris Walker caught up with this week to discuss a successful season with his U.14's, ahead of his pending departure.

Walker's boys fought tooth and nail to win the title they so valiantly contested for, but unfortunately, they were pipped to the post on the final day of the campaign.

His side went into the final fixture of the season knowing that all three points would clinch them the title, with their opponents only needing a draw to win the league.

In the all-important curtain closer, Saltdean went 1-0 down inside the opening minute, but in a style typified to the Tigers, they clawed their way back to being3-1 up at halftime.

In a topsy-turvy encounter, the Tigers found themselves 4-3 ahead with just 2 minutes to go until Ferring drew level to clinch the title and break the hearts of Walker's young warriors.

The defeat spelt the end of Walkers reign as the side's "gaffer", a tremendous job done with the boys since they were just 7 years old! Walker admits it's going to be a role he will miss but is excited about the new coaching team that has been employed to steer the side to the next level.

Walker said, "There were lots of tears and disappointment on that final day, but overall it was a great season, It's been a privilege to coach this bunch of players since they were 7."

"I'm pleased to say we have 2 great coaches taking over from me in Harry Shooman and Bailey Rogers who will hopefully take the players to the next level."

The Tigers managed to get their first tournament win on Saturday at the Peacehaven 6 a side.

Saltdean entered 2 sides who, unfortunately, had to meet in the Semi- Final! Thankfully, the side that progressed beat a strong Peacehaven side 4-3 to win the trophy.
