A message from Sandown & Shanklin RFC Chairman, Bill MacPherson.

Dear Members, Sponsors and Supporters,

We are living through a period of uncertainty not experienced for a generation. You will have been monitoring the Government’s response to this pandemic and the measures implemented over recent days in the ‘delay’ phase. Organisations have adapted and changed plans in order to comply with these measures. As a Club we have been monitoring this closely and have held an emergency Committee meeting to manage our response to these measures and any associated implications:

England and Hampshire RFU have ceased all rugby activity until further notice
All clubs and activities associated with or held in the Clubhouse have ceased
Army v Navy game is cancelled, if you purchased tickets for this you can get a refund from where you purchased them

  • The Sponsors lunch on 28 March is cancelled
  • The SSRFC Club Dinner on 25 April is cancelled
  • The AGM will be delayed until further notice
  • The Royal Marine tour on 15/16 May is cancelled and moved to May 2021
  • All private parties and functions currently booked are either cancelled or if after August under review

The Committee have taken the line to refund all deposits to the small business and clubs affected. We have looked at current liabilities, cash in bank and the effect of projected loss of income and are very confident that the club can be sustained for a period of 12 months should it be required, which is good news. The committee are monitoring and have been in touch regarding UK Gov business support and England RFU support. We continue to plan for the 2020/21 season and will keep this under review.
There are several projects started, which subject to funds and Government guidance, we intend to continue to progress:
  • Pitch maintenance – Veri draining, weed killer and possible seeding
  • Kitchen refurbishment
  • Balcony project

These will be continually reviewed to ensure they are viable, practical and can be delivered in time and within budget.

The committee have worked very hard to ensure that any financial exposure and impacts to the branch have been minimised and we remain a viable club and business. No one really know how this will play out going forward, but we will come out of it at some point. We aim to comply with all Government and RFU guidance going forward as we move through the various phases of this Pandemic and move back to normality.
We will keep you all informed of any significant changes going forward. In the meantime, please take care of yourself, families and friends. Pick up that phone and call more often, if you or anyone you are aware of in the Club that may be having a tough time in the next few weeks or months, then please get in touch with Graham (07711045799) or myself (07922905128) who can muster up some support from the club to help with transport, shopping or anything else that might be causing problems.
