Report by Matt Jones

There is little to say about this game except to say, from a Sandown perspective at least, the less that is said the better. Did the score reflect the game? No. We deserved to get beat comprehensively, but a landslide to nil rather distorts the picture.

Sandown travelled to Camberley without a couple of key players but certainly not ‘short’ and expected to give their opponents competition up front and to exceed them out on the flanks. This did not happen except for the scrum, as Ricky let everyone know, we were second best in every department.

Camberley’s giant player coach controlled the game from 10 and, when they did have the numbers, they invariably used them. I can’t remember many of the scores (they seemed to merge into one the number of time we found ourselves regrouping behind the posts), but one of the highlights from a Camberley perspective was a length of the pitch break from their fullback who, despite the attentions of two Sandown backs, managed to flick the ball inside for their winger to cross to the rapturous delight of the accumulated alickadoos.

Our aim is to finish third this year but we will need to win all our remaining games to stand a chance of that, starting with Alton at home this weekend who will doubtless provide a sterner test than we faced a few weeks ago at Anstey Park.

Sandown Team: R Harris, D Thomas, T Eldridge, S Rees, L Hunter, H Booth, A Gough, J Rees, J Carey, W Baxandall, D Muir, J Keyworth, D Robinson, L Chandler, K Wales. Subs: A Tyas, S Corby, M Jones
