Report by Geoff Giles

After London South Africa failed to honour last week’s fixture, Hurries were up for a game and hosted Hampshire neighbours Petersfield. On a beautiful day and with a brilliant referee, both teams were keen to play attractive rugby to the large crowd of supporters.

Hurries were under immediate pressure on their line but held out kicking the ball down field. From the lineout they drove over for Captain Ricky Harris to be adjudged 'held-up'. After 20 minutes of end to end play with both sides getting close, a Joe Rees power run was stopped just short of the line, but he popped it up to Will Baxandall to score an unconverted try 5-0.

Straight from the kick-off, after a missed tackle, Dan Robinson made a solo run from the half way line to produce a ASHTON style unconverted try under the posts (he thought I had a camera?)

Hurries continued to apply pressure and Luke Chandler was stopped just short of the line, which went for a lineout. A forward drive over the line and Tommy Booth came up with the unconverted try, 15-0.

The superb creativity of scrum half and VIKOMA man-of-the-match Joel Carey kept the game alive. Joe Rees made a break, passed to his brother and WIGHTLINK man-of-the-match Sam Rees, who in turn passed to Dan Muir to score a try converted this time by Baxandall, 22-0.

In the last quarter of the half, Hurries were placed under sustained pressure on their line, scrum after scrum and consecutive penalties resulted in Hurries losing a player to the sin bin. Three minutes later they lost another player, both from infringements at the breakdown. Now down to 13 players, the defence held out and Booth made a strong run out of his 22 and fed Muir, who was adjudged held up as he went over for a try. HALF TIME 22-0.

After strong pressure on the hurries line, the visitors soon crashed over for a converted try 22-7. Once up to 15 players, Hurries worked their way up field and the superb Kern Wales scored an unconverted try, 27-7. The Hurries lost another player to the sin bin from another breakdown infringement and the visitors kicked a penalty from the half way line, 27-10.

One of the Hurries substitutions Daniel Hodgson, was forced over on the corner flag going for a try. With 14 players, Hurries went for two scrums on the visitors line, scrum half Andy Gough went blind to score an unconverted try, 32-10.

A Petersfield player was then sin binned and from a rolling maul in the Petersfield 22, Joe Rees went blind to score a try converted by Baxandall. FINAL SCORE 39-10

Hurries from: Harris, Tyas, Skelley, Hunter, J & S Rees, R & J Carey, Booth, Baxandall, Chandler, Keyworth, Robinson, Muir, Wales, Hodgson, Gough, Eldridge.
