The Hurricanes defeat Ventnor at home, and avenge the loss from last season.

Following their excellent start to the season against Fareham Heathens the previous Saturday, Sandown & Shanklin did not have to wait long for the first derby game of the season, at home to Ventnor RFC.
Prior to the fixture, the Club laid on a fine Wine & Cheese spread for the VP's, invited Ventnor members, and also the Wight Wolves, the first ladies Woman's Rugby team on the island, to enjoy the spectacle between the two Island sides.

The game started much in a similar vain to the game against Fareham, with the opposition getting their hands on the ball and making ground up front. However, as soon as the Sandown forwards got into the game, and created a platform for their back line, they managed to put Fly-half Cameron Mitchell into space for the first score of the game. Despite being matched up front, the Hurricanes scored two further tries from wingers Michael Barrett and last weeks Hat-trick hero Jack Wedderkop. Tom Borrer also kicked two penalties and the two conversions.

Ventnor were the next to strike, after gaining territory they set a well formed maul and drove themselves over the line to get themselves off the mark in the game. The Hurricanes immediately struck back through pacy winger Michael Barrett and Tom Borrer duly converted.
The visitors, managed to score the next blow, with quick thinking from former Hurricane player Andy Gough taking a quick tap and go over the try line, and to end the half.

The second half began with the Hurricanes keeping their foot on the pedal and not allowing Ventnor any moment to rest. Jack Wedderkop got his second of the game. Moments later, and not to be out done, Michael Barrett got another try and completed his hat-trick, Tom Borrer converting again. Full back and Man of the match - Sam Tyson, deservedly managed to get himself on the scoreboard with a silky run to touch down.
No 8 Harrison Booth also managed to score a try, and to make it two hat-tricks from two games, Jack Wedderkop completed the scoring on the day, with Tom Borrer converting both to leave the scoring at 63 - 17.

Despite the score line, the Hurricanes acknowledged the endeavour and how hard they were pushed throughout the game by the Ventnor boys. Sandown & Shanklin now turn their attention to Bognor, with an away trip on the cards next Saturday. Travel will be on the train, so please come along and support the boys on the road.
