Report by Geoff Giles:

Hurries have yet to get off the mark this season. Lots of promise but littered with mistakes, where at this level cost games.

Hurries failed to gather straight from the kickoff, went out for a 5 metre line out and the visitors mauled over for an early converted try 0-7. On 15 minutes, exactly the same scenario, from a line out mauled over for another try 0-14.

Hurries then started to put some pressure on the visitors with a Dan Muir disallowed a try. The Hurries got to their line several times but infringements let them down. Finally on 33 minutes, after side to side ball handling, Ben Kulik drove over, converted by Neil Buckingham, 7-14.

Hurries again upped their game and it was only good defending and some mistakes that kept them out. In the last minutes of the half, a final pass went astray for a certain try for the Hurries.

Second half, from a cleverly placed deep kick-off, the visitors for once were in disarray and Buckingham kicked a penalty, 10-14. Hurries continued their game plan, the ball moving from side to side with VIKOMA man-of-the-match Michael Booth supplying the backs with excellent ball.

Then the visitors full back broke from the centre of the field, ran through 3 missed tackles to score in the corner, 10-21. After some indecision from a visitors long field kick the Hurries were on their line again and from a 5 metre scrum the No 8 picked up and fed for another try, 10-28.

A missed pass went to ground in the Hurries 22, a Winchester player collected, try, 10-35. The visitors then forced the play with side to side play in the Hurries 22 and eventually broke through the defence, for an unconverted try, 10-40.
Hurries never gave up forcing play down field and moving the ball from wing to wing to find a gap. Eventually captain, and WIGHTLINK man-of-the-match Joe Rees passed the ball to his brother Sam who slipped it back to create the gap and Joe scored an unconverted try FINAL SCORE 15-40.

Hurries have plenty to work on before entertaining the higher league opposition Havant next week in the Hampshire Cup.
