Sandown were broken down and overcome by KCS Old Boys at the Fairway on Saturday. The hosts were unable to find any rhythm in their London South West 3 match, and only prevented a complete whitewash with the last play of the game.

In a match featuring little in the way of attacking flair, both sides ground out possession, and when they did break, often handling errors let them down.

Sandown were guilty of a lot of infringements, which allowed KCS vital possession and penalty opportunities and it was with a penalty that they took the lead in the 15th minute. Sandown were camped in their own half for much of the opening half hour but they managed to break into opposition territory and earn a penalty themselves, which they missed.

They were made to pay for that miss when three minutes later KCS scored a try, pushing over after a drive from 22. It was converted for a 10-0 lead.

In the second half, Sandown tried to pull it back, and produced some good running moves but once again, they kept falling short of the target. A succession of penalties almost bore fruit as Sandown opted to scrum down and push over, but KCS defended well and cleared the danger.

They then earned two more penalty kicks but, thankfully for Sandown, both were missed.

With five minutes left however, they extended their lead, a run down the right pushing them forward before their speedy centre danced through the Sandown defence to score under the posts, for a converted try.

Sandown finally got off the mark when Aiden Price charged over but it was too late, and the missed conversion was met with the final whistle.
