It took 40 minutes for Sandown and Shanklin to break down a dogged New Milton side in London South West 3 on Saturday. But once the floodgates were open, there was no stopping the Hurricanes.

In a bitter wind, Sandown and Shanklin suffered a slow start against the second-from-bottom side, who looked threatening on the attack. However, Sandown were doggedly determined in defence and the mainlanders found no way through.

Midway through the half, the tide changed and Sandown camped themselves inside New Milton's 22. Time and again Sandown found themselves just inches from the line, but New Milton did just enough to keep them at bay.

After a pointless first half, Sandown found another gear and after missing a penalty, opened the scoring with a try for Luke Chandler, who collected the ball from the restart and charged 30m to the line. Cameron Mitchell converted.

Minutes later they doubled their score, Sandown brilliantly stealing line-out ball and feeding Kemp Price, who produced a great sprint to the line. Mitchell converted again to make it 14-0.

With 15 minutes left, and after a series of scrums, Sandown were awarded a penalty try, again converted by Mitchell, before Aiden Price broke through New Milton's weary defence to make it 28-0.

The scoring was wrapped up with the final play of the game as Todd Eldridge finished off a great move between backs and forwards, Mitchell again convertingto make it 35-0.

In the midst of all these tries, Sandown also had two disallowed, VIKOMA man of the match Luke Hunter judged to have been held up on both occasions. WIGHTLINK man of the match was Sam Tyson.

There is now a break in league action until the New Year however the Hurricanes will take on former players in the club's annual Hurricanes Exiles game next Saturday, December 28th from 1pm.
