Report from: Geoff Giles

On a beautiful sunny day, the Hurries entertained their Hampshire rivals Eastleigh RFC, who are above them in the league. Both teams treated the large crowd of supporters to one of the best games at the fairway for years and the Hampshire RFU officials present on the day witnessed some top class Rugby.

The visitors started with passion, within minutes, one try adjudged 'out on the corner post' another lost ball over the line then eventually at their third attempt, kicked a penalty, 0-3. Hurries have proved that, when faced with 'slick' opposition, they lift their game and the defence was now working overtime. Then came a 'stale-mate' period in the centre of the field, with both sides cancelling each other out.

Hurries were strong in the tight with Woolfenden, Kulik and Eldridge destroying the usually strong Eastleigh pack. Sam Rees was also winning their ball in the line out.

Then towards the end of the half, 20 metres out, Captain Luke Chandler slipped the ball inside to VIKOMA man-of the-match Kemp Price, who side stepped three tackles to score a try, converted by Cameron Mitchell, 7-3. Hurries finished the stronger camped in the visitors 10 metres, moving the ball from side to side but unable to break down the Eastleigh defence, half time 7-3.

Straight from the kick off, the visitors defence waited for the bounce, and WIGHTLINK man-of-the-match Aiden Price gathered the ball, with the defence offside, Hurries played the advantage and Luke Hunter scored a try, converted again by Mitchell, 14-3.

The visitors fought their way up-field and tried to breach the Hurries strong defence but were losing on the penalty count. Kemp Price again broke the line, but the Hurries were held up short of the line. Again, the visitors strayed offside, and in the advantage, David Woolfenden scored a try, 19-3.

The visitors then put Hurries under pressure with power plays around the Hurries 10 metre line. Eventually Hurries lost a player to the sin bin for not rolling away. From a series of close in rucks Eastleigh went over for a try, 19-8.

Hurries then made their way to the visitors’ line several times but strong defending held them out. The visitors replied pushing for the try and got caught in midfield, when David Graham caught an interception pass and sprinted under the posts, converted by Aiden Price, 26-8.

Again Sam Rees stole a line-out, and Mitchell made a clever kick which was gathered by Sam Tyson who scored a try 31-8. The visitors however never gave up and fought their way up field then went blind from a ruck and scored the final tray of the day. FINAL SCORE 31-13.
