Report from: Aidan Price

Sandown were at home to Camberley in a game that both teams needed to win; Sandown pushing for a top 3 finish and Camberley looking to battle out of the relegation zone. Both sides would be in for a tough battle.

From the first whistle, Sandown applied the pressure. A line out on Camberley’s 22 allowed Sandown to set up driving maul which ploughed over the try line, scored by Price; Baxandall converted.

Camberley responded quickly with a try out wide. Immediately after the restart, Sandown’s pressure in defence caused Camberley to drop the ball which allowed Baxandall to scoop it up and off-load to Price to score under the posts and Baxandall converted again.

Sandown continued to perform and a break from Graham who popped inside to Robinson to score. Camberley returned the pressure, causing Sandown to play some scrappy rugby but a break through the centres put Camberley on the back foot and after some quick phases of rugby, VIKOMA Man-of-the-Match Aidan Price crashed over for his 3rd try.

Camberley replied with another well worked try out wide and was converted. Just before half time, Robinson brushed past the defence to dive under for his 2nd try, giving Sandown the much needed boost for the second half.

Sandown had now shifted up a gear and were finding holes in the Camberley defence; Price took a quick penalty and offloaded to Baxandall who feed Kulik to score under the posts; converted by Baxandall.

Credit to Camberley’s squad who never gave up and threw everything at Sandown, which resulted in Tyson and Harris both receiving yellows for penalties in the ‘red area’; Camberley exploited this by scoring two tries.

With the return of both players, Sandown now went on the attack with WIGHTLINK Man-of-the-Match Luke Chandler leading the way. Quick running rugby and interlinking play meant Sandown were on the front foot. An inside pass from Hunter to Flux allowed him to score his first 15’s try and converted it himself.

Sandown thought they had won the game and took their foot of the pedal which allowed Camberley to come back one last time and score in the corner. The final score was Sandown 43 – Camberley 27.

Sandown now sit 4th in London 3 South West pushing ever more for a top 3 finish! Next week Sandown face Purely John Fisher away in a game they must win to keep a top 3 place alive.
